Students in fifth grade are beginning a study of family vocabulary that is more involved than in past years. New words include cuñado, suegro, nuera, yerno — all words for in-laws — and others. Students will begin to approach and practice identifying when to use ser, which means to be, versus when to use estar, which also means to be.
